Blues come up short vs Gulls

The Blues' losing streak was extended to four games following a 3-2 loss to the Newport Gulls, Bristol is now 15-17 on the season. 

Newport scored a run in the top of the first, but Christopher Deprima (Yale) doubled in the bottom of the inning to tie things up 1-1. Mason Ligenza (Pitt) doubled in the third to drive in the go-ahead run for the Gulls as Newport reclaimed the lead. Alex Hwang (Yale) provided three shutout innings of relief for the Blues to keep it a one-run game. 

Joe Barbarino (FDU) was also shut down for Newport out of the bullpen as he provided them with four scoreless innings of relief. Sean Britt (St. Johns) had an RBI single in the seventh to bring home Nick Flores (VCU) to tie the game 2-2. Newport once again reclaimed the lead in the top of the eighth inning on a wild pitch. This time Bristol wasn't able to answer back, the Gulls held on to win by a final of 3-2. 

The Blues showed fight as they tied the game up two separate times after trailing but it wasn't enough. The Blues only had six hits in the game and ultimately the offense couldn't come up big when they needed to, they left 12 runners on base and it cost them. The Blues drop to three games under .500 and are now 15-18.

Bristol is back at Muzzy Field for a doubleheader against the Valley Blue Sox on July 17 with a continuation of a game from July 4 and the second set for seven p.m. first pitch.
