Blues fall in Danbury to Westerners

The Blues fell 11-7 to the Danbury Westerners, bringing their season record to 15-16. 

The Blues' defense was hot in the game, not letting the Westerners score for the first two innings, the fifth inning, or the final inning. Kyle Peters (UCONN) was hot on the mound, only allowing six runs and hits, and pitched five strikeouts. 

Antonio Ducatelli (Fairfield) got things started for the Blues top of the first, after Nich Francuzenko (Towson) singled to right field, which advanced Chris DiPrima (Yale) to third and scored Ducatelli. Followed by Thomas Zwirecki (Rutgers) reaching first on a fielder's choice, Francuzenko advancing to second, sending DiPrima home, putting Bristol up 2-0. 

Top of the second, Nick Flores (VCU) hit a three-run homer to left field, also scoring Evan Menzel (UCONN), and Mason Breton (LIU Post), and the Blues leading 5-0. Francuzenko was hot again, scoring for Ducatelli once again. 

Bottom of the third, the Westerners closed the gap to 6-3 after Aidan Stern hit his own home run to right field, also scoring Kyle Garbowski and Ryan Martin. Followed by a homerun to left field by Ryan Preisano, making it a two-run game. In the bottom of the fourth, the Westerners tied it 6-6 when Jack Lutte scored after Kyle Garbowski singled to left field. 

The Blues took the lead once again at the top of the sixth, after DiPrima singled to left field, advancing Ducatelli and Flores to second and third, and scoring Colin Crowley (Winthrop). However, at the bottom of the sixth, Danbury tied the game again, 7-7, and took the lead, 10-7, after a second home run by Preisano, which also scored Stern and Garbowski. In the bottom of the eighth, Danbury secured their win after Presiano stole second and Gavin Donohue stole home, making the final score 11-7. 

The Blues return home on July 16 for a match-up against the Newport Gulls at 6:30 and then again on July 17 at 4:30 and 7 for a double header against the Valley Blue Sox.
