Blues defeated by Waves
The Blues were defeated by the Ocean State Waves on July 2, making the season record 11-12.
The Blues shut down the Waves for the first two innings. The Blues closed out the bottom of the first with a double play, as Alex Hwang (Yale) threw to JJ Romatzick (University of Hartford), who threw to Nick Francuzenko (Towson), who recorded two outs.
The Waves got their first run on the board in the bottom of the third inning. The Blues responded to the Waves' run with a two-run home run to centerfield by Jack Balcer (Quinnipiac), also scoring Francuzenko. Nick Flores (VCU) extended the lead to 3-1 after Francuzenko walked, advancing Scott Gell (Stony Brook) to second and Antonio Ducatelli (Fairfield) to third.
However, the Waves took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Brodey Bitove singled to left field, scoring Liam Flynn. Owen Morgan then scored, followed by a sacrifice fly to right field by Gabriel Milano, which scored Thomas Meluskey. The Waves got their fourth run of the inning when Jack LaRose tripled to center field, scoring Brodey Bitove, but the Blues closed out the inning with an out to first.
Mason Glickman (University of New Haven) came onto the mound in the bottom of the sixth following JD Costanzo (West Virginia). Glickman allowed a single hit, did not allow any runs, and struck out three against the Waves. Glickman struck out back-to-back batters right off the bat and helped get the third out against the Waves by throwing it to Francuzenko, who then threw it to Romatzick. His final strikeout came in the bottom of the seventh.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Waves scored their final run of the night after a single to right field scored William Mahala.
The Blues play again at Muzzy Field on July 4 against the Valley Blue Sox at 5 p.m.
