Blues have victory over Valley Blue Sox
The Blues defeated the Valley Blue Sox on Monday night at MacKenzie Stadium. The Blues had a victory over the Blue Sox with a final score of 10-3.
Kyle Peters (UCONN) was dialed in on the mound, having allowed only four hits, two runs, and pitched five strikeouts. Peters also pitched a three-up, three-down at the bottom of the second.
The Blues got off to a hot start at the top of the first. Scott Gell (Stony Brook) singled and advanced to second while Nicholas Francuzenko (Towson University) advanced to third, and both Antonio Ducatelli (Central Connecticut State University) and Nick Flores (Virginia Commonwealth University) both scored. Followed by a run from Frankunzeko after Mason Breton grounded out to shortstop.
The Blue Sox made it a close game, 3-2, but the Blues pulled away at the start of the second. Even Menzel (UCONN) singled to second base, followed by a double to right field by Flores, allowing Menzel to score. Flores got his second run of the night after Christopher DiPrima reached on a fielder's choice. Shortly after Flores' run, both DiPrima and Francuzenko scored their first runs of the night after Mason Breton had 2 RBI after singling to first. The Blues were up 7-2.
Menzel singled to center field at the top of the fifth and was able to score his second run after DiPrima singled to right field, extending their lead to 8-2.
The Blues' defense did not allow the Blue Sox to score for seven straight innings.
The Blues runs were not slowing down at the top of the seventh after Menzel had his third run, followed by a run scored by Ducatelli.
The Blues are now 4-6 for the season. The Blues return to Muzzy Field on June 17 to play against the Valley Blue Sox at 11:30.
