Blues fall to Wavs in hard fought game
The Blues fall short in a neck to neck game against the Ocean State Waves
In a neck-and-neck game, the Bristol Blues fell to the Ocean State Waves with a final score of 9-6 on Wednesday evening at Old Mountain Field.
The Blues fielders were locked in, having only allowed one hit and no runs at the bottom of the first. Frank Spirito (University of Connecticut) caused his first strikeout at the bottom of the first. At the bottom of the second, Spirito gave the Waves their first out after causing his second strikeout.
At the top of the third, the Blues were on fire, having scored three runs in a row. Colin Crowley (Winthrop University) got the Blues the first run after Nicholas Francuzenko (Towson University) walked, which advanced Crowley to third, but then on a passed ball, Crowley went home.
Christopher DiPrima (Yale University) wanted to get his team the lead and scored the Blues' second run on a wild pitch. Followed by a single to left field by Scott Gell (Stony Brook University), allowing Francuzenko to score, giving the Blues a 3-1 lead.
After a runless inning for both teams at the top of the fifth, the Blues had three runs and took the lead back from the Waves. DiPrima scored his second run of the night after advancing to third when JJ Romatzick walked, followed by a passed ball, which allowed DiPrima to score. A walk by Trent Rice allowed Mason Breton to score, giving the Blues the lead once again. A single to first base by Antonio Ducatelli and a run by Romatzick made it a two-run game.
Gabriel Milano (University of Miami), Max Farrell (San Diego State University), and Samuel Fernandez (Stetson University) combined for six of the nine runs for the Waves.
The Blues are now 3-3 for the season. The Blues are heading back to Muzzy Field for Mom's at Muzzy. The Blues' next matchup is against the Danbury Westerners. The Blues will face the Westerners on June 12 at 6:30 p.m.
